Image: In the Spirit of Giving: David Lifsey Amplifies Fellowship Fund with $50,000 Contribution On Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 3:15 pm, Mr. David Lifsey presented the "Lifsey Graduate Fellowship in Statistics and Data Science" award to Mr. Ryan C. Smith, a UGA Double Dawgs student pursuing a master’s degree in Statistics. Originally founded in 2018, the "Lifsey Graduate Fellowship in Statistics and Data Science" is awarded to a student pursuing an MS in Statistics or Data Science every year, allowing them to further pursue their studies and develop their research. Ryan C. Smiths this year’s recipient of this supplementary fellowship from Mr. Lifsey. Mr Lifsey presented a signed certificate to Ryan last Thursday in a ceremony in the Cohen Rooms of Brooks Hall. Mr Lifsey presenting Ryan Smith with his fellowship certificate with Department Head TN Sriram Following the Ceremony on the 7th, Mr Lifesey caught wind of the UGA Foundation’s call for donations, with a promise to match any donation 1:1. Instantly, Mr Lifsey chose to commit an additional $50,000 to augment his existing David Lifsey Fellowship Fund. This newfound contribution, combined with the 1:1 match from the UGA Foundation, catapults the fund's total to an impressive $200,000, with which the Statistics department will now be able to nominate at least two Lifsey Fellowship accolades starting next year. Mr. Lifsey conveyed his deep appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the department, which is extremely grateful to Mr. Lifsey for his exemplary commitment to advancing education and fostering the success of our students. Mr. Lifsey's generous contributions, both through the establishment of the Lifsey Graduate Fellowship and his recent additional donation, have significantly enriched the opportunities available to aspiring statisticians. With a heartfelt thank you, we the Department of Statistics express our deepest appreciation for Mr. Lifsey's dedication to our program and the enduring impact of his philanthropy on the future of statistical education at the University of Georgia.
