Congratulations to Abhyuday Mandal for receiving the 2015 Faculty division Outstanding Academic Advisor Award in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. He was presented with this honor for his advising skills, deep concern for his students, and going well beyond the norm to assist his advisees in having a meaningful academis experience at the University of Georgia. For the first time, the Best Capstone Student Award ended in a tie, with two winners, Theresa Devasia and Joshua Lukemire, sharing the 2015 award (and splitting the $500 cash prize).  With 32 (mostly highly motivated) students enrolled in this year’s Capstone (STAT 5010-5020) Course, it was not easy to select a ‘best’ student, and even selecting two co-winners was quite difficult. Third-year statistics major, Theresa Devasia's collaborated UGA's College of Public Health's Andreas Handel to research norovirus infections, sometimes know as the stomach flu. Working on this study, Devasia and Handel studied a large set of outbreaks of norovirus infections.
